People’s lives in Ethiopia’s rocky and mountainous region of Tigray are in tatters as they deal with famine in the ruins of a war zone. Government troops, backed by those from neighbouring Eritrea, have been involved in battle with the region’s now-ousted ruling party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), since November, precipitating a humanitarian crisis. Former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo is expected to return home, 10 years after he was taken to the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of crimes against humanity. Mr Gbagbo has been living in the Belgian capital Brussels since his release from detention three years ago. His successor and rival President Alassane Ouattara invited him back. He was the first former head of state to go on trial at the ICC but was acquitted of all charges. The inauguration of the newly elected Assembly members was slated to commence today at exactly 2:00pm. After a successful inauguration of the newly elected Assembly members, the Municipal Chairperson of the electoral Commission described the modalities for conducting the election in accordance with article 244(2) of the 1992 constitution. Investigations by Education Think Tank, Africa Education Watch have revealed that question papers for the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) were leaked to candidates. According to Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, these question papers were sent from West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) IT department to other online platforms which were subsequently forwarded to his outfit by a member on the platform. Two lives have been lost after an Intercity STC bus ran into a faulty articulated truck on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Wednesday, June 16, 2021.
