A second push by lawyers for former Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) CEO Dr Stephen Opuni to have the judge hearing his criminal case recuse himself has failed. Supreme Court Judge Clemence Honyenuga who is hearing the case as an additional High Court judge, has been accused of bias. Parliament’s Appointments Committee has finally recommended for approval, the nomination of Andrew Egyapa Mercer as a Deputy Energy Minister. A Committee member earlier insisted on the suspension of the nomination due to some unfavorable answers to questions posed by members of the Committee in relation to the botched PDS deal in which he acted as a Director and a Secretary for TG solutions, one of the parties to the deal. The exercise will begin with the public hearing for a Deputy Minister-designate for Interior, Naana Eyiah Quansah, Deputy Minister-Designate for Transport, Hassan Tampuli, Deputy Minister-designate for Finance, Dr. John Kumah, and Deputy Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi will also be vetted.
