Renowned journalist Kwesi Pratt has slammed those playing the tribal cards with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama.
For those saying its a tribal clash between Northerners, Pratt stated that the tribe of a leader is irrelevant to the nation’s progress and the well-being of Ghanaians.
The recent election of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer has set the stage for a showdown with former President John Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 presidential race.
However, the focus on the Northern origins of both candidates has led some describing the upcoming election as the ‘battle of the North,’ an argument Kwesi Pratt finds unwarranted.
During an interview on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Kwesi Pratt expressed his disapproval of this narrative, questioning its basis and emphasizing that the tribe of a leader does not influence factors such as inflation or national debt.
“If you choose a President who hails from Berekum, how does that reduce inflation? If you elect a President from Sogakope, how will that reduce our debt?” Pratt questioned.
Pratt urged Ghanaians to ignore such claims and instead focus on the essential criterion of electing leaders who are committed to alleviating the burdens faced by the nation.
“Elect leaders who will work hard to remove our burdens,” he added.
