Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has denied the allegations suggesting that he holds British citizenship.
The claims stem from information found on the British government’s Companies House website, where Dr. Bawumia’s details indicate that he is a British citizen. However, the vice president has clarified that some of the information on the website is incorrect.
According to Dr. Bawumia, when he was the director of the Ghana International Bank, a subsidiary of the Bank of Ghana in London, UK, he clearly stated his Ghanaian nationality on the form he filled out for Companies House. His office shared a copy of the form filled out by Dr. Bawumia in 2006, which confirmed that he had identified himself as Ghanaian.
While all of Dr. Bawumia’s other details matched the information on the website, such as his name and position, his nationality and resignation date were not included on the form.
GhanaWeb has attempted to obtain clarification on the matter from both Companies House and the British High Commission in Accra, but there has been no response from either entity.
The Companies House website record indicates Dr. Bawumia’s tenure as director of the Ghana International Bank and suggests that the bank is still active in the UK, despite his resignation from the position
