Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was among several prominent dignitaries who attended Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House on March 6, 2025.
In a video shared by popular Ghanaian blogger GH Hyper on Instagram, Akufo-Addo was seen warmly greeting former President John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor, Chairman of the Council of State Hon. Doe Adjaho, and Minister of Education and Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu as he made his entrance.
After serving two terms as president, Akufo-Addo took a seat next to John Agyekum Kufuor, and the two former leaders engaged in conversation while waiting for the start of the Independence Anniversary Commemoration Parade.
The event, which was traditionally held at the Black Star Square in Accra, was relocated to the Jubilee House after President Mahama’s administration reduced the celebration budget by 90%. This cutback, from GH₵15 million under the previous government, aimed to minimize costs amid severe economic challenges.
The current president is expected to address the nation, officially launching the celebrations of Ghana’s independence from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957.
