President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to upholding Ghana’s esteemed democratic reputation and territorial integrity throughout the period surrounding the upcoming December 7 general election.
He emphasized Ghana’s standing as a model of democracy and peace in the West African Sub-region, highlighting its significance in attracting and retaining investment. President Akufo-Addo assured that his administration is dedicated to safeguarding the socioeconomic and democratic progress achieved during his tenure.
Addressing a gathering at the culmination of the annual Aboakyer Festival in Effutu (Winneba), President Akufo-Addo urged citizens to avoid actions that could jeopardize the nation’s peace. The festival, celebrated under the theme “Promoting Tradition and Development through Aboakyer Celebration,” featured various activities such as musical shows, community clean-up exercises, and sports events.
The President stressed that elections should not be marred by violence, urging all to contribute to a peaceful and successful electoral process to protect Ghana’s democracy. He emphasized the importance of political maturity and normalcy in daily activities to demonstrate Ghana’s peaceful nature to the world.
Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo introduced Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for the upcoming polls, urging citizens to vote overwhelmingly for him and other NPP candidates. He highlighted the party’s development initiatives across the country, advocating for their continuity.
Commending Effutu’s chiefs and people for preserving their traditions, President Akufo-Addo encouraged social cohesion and unity to accelerate development. Neenyi Ghartey VII, Omanhen of Effutu Traditional Area, expressed gratitude for government projects in the region, including a fish landing facility and road reconstruction. He appealed for the modernization of the Winneba Market Complex to accommodate the growing number of traders.
Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu, highlighted the government’s efforts to improve the lives of residents through various projects, promising support irrespective of political affiliation or ethnicity.
