The Ghana Water Company Limited says over 140,000 people in Odaso and Obuasi in the Ashanti Region have limited access to water on a daily basis due to the negative effects of illegal mining activities. According to GWCL, it has drastically reduced the volumes of water supplied to households in these areas as illegal mining activities directly affect its production and general operations. Ranking Member on Parliament’s Energy Committee, John Jinapor, has blamed former Minister of Energy, under President Akufo-Addo’s first term, for causing a loss of $170million to the state. Drama unfolded at the Criminal Court 5 Division of the High Court on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, in a case where four persons are standing trial for allegedly kidnapping some three Canadian girls in Ghana. President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). He takes over from Hassan Tampoli, who is now MP for Gushiega and a Deputy Transport Minister-designate. The appointment takes effect from July 1, 2021. Private road transport operators have announced that they will be adjusting transport fares in a few days. According to the Ghana Committed Drivers Association, Concern Drivers Association and True Drivers Union, the decision is because of the 3% increase in fuel prices on Sunday. “As a result of the 3% increase in fuel price, a gallon of fuel which was sold for ¢27.22 is now being sold for ¢28.35,” parts of the statement read. Government has raised Gh¢1.86 billion from the sale of a seven-year bond to tackle the country’s debt burden. Proceeds from the bond, which drew near-record demand, would help refinance the debt of a five-year bond which is due to mature. The long term bond, expected to offer both safety and liquidity, was snapped up by investors who oversubscribed it by 3.3 per cent with the interest cost of the debt instrument going down by 6.4 per cent from 24.5 per cent to 18.10 per cent. This means significant savings for government on its interest payment aimed at restructuring its debt.…
