The Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate of the Ghana Police Service has identified the Sunyani-Berekum stretch as an accident prone area in the Bono region.
The Regional Commander of MTTD, Supt Stephen Tenkorang made this known at the National road safety Authority’s launch of the “stay alive’ campaign during Christmas season.
He said the Police have begun checking over speeding and unnecessary overtaking on the roads to ensure the right things are done.
Supt. Tenkorang added that, sensitization has also begun at the various transport terminals in the region for both drivers and passengers on the negative effects of overloading.
On her part, the Bono regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene listed among other things the challenges confronting the region as far as road accidents are concern.
She said unclear road markings and over speeding cause accident and implored authorities to work on the issues raised.
She further cautioned people who walk haphazardly along the road to desist from doing so to avoid being knocked down by moving vehicles.
