The Minister of lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor has hinted the ban of export of charcoal from the country as it is one of the major cause of deforestation and forest degradation in the country.
The Minister said, there is an upsurge in the export of charcoal since it is the major raw material for the pharmaceutical industries in the world and also a major raw material for the toothpaste companies in the world, so the export of charcoal has been a lucrative business.
He continued that, the government is examining the export of the charcoal and would not hesitate to ban it if the need arises.
He was speaking with the media during his three day working visit to the Bono and Ahafo Regions to interact with Chiefs and stakeholders and agencies of the lands and Natural Resources ministry.
He entreated everyone to join the fight against climate change.
