The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Kpandai, Daniel Nsals Wakpal, has filed a contempt application at the Tamale High Court against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, for failing to conduct a court-ordered rerun of the constituency’s parliamentary election.
The application, filed under Article 99 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1992 (PNDCL 284), stems from disputes over the December 7, 2024 parliamentary results.
Mr. Wakpal is contesting the EC’s declaration of Matthew Nyindam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the valid Member of Parliament-elect for Kpandai.
According to the motion, filed under Order 50 Rule 1(2) of C.I. 47, the NDC candidate seeks to have Madam Mensa committed for contempt for allegedly failing to carry out an earlier directive by the Tamale High Court ordering a rerun of the election.
The matter is scheduled for hearing on December 23, 2025, where the court is expected to determine whether the EC Chair’s actions constitute wilful disregard of its ruling.
