The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Assin Breku has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Ninkyiso Polling Station Chairman, Yahya, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorbike accident.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday, November 14, while the party executive was attending a campaign event organised for NPP flagbearer hopeful Bryan Acheampong.
Yahya was riding a motorbike alongside the constituency’s Nasara Coordinator, Vilinke Mohammed, when a speeding motorbike reportedly crashed into theirs. The victims were rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu for emergency care.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, Yahya passed away on Sunday, November 16.
Vilinke Mohammed remains in critical condition after suffering severe head injuries.
A third person, Kwaku Mensah, who was travelling from Manso to Assin Adiembra for a funeral, also sustained serious injuries in the collision and is receiving treatment at the same facility.
Confirming the incident on Monday, November 17, NPP Constituency Organiser Collins Egyiri expressed shock and sorrow.
“I was informed about the accident while preparations were ongoing for Mr. Bryan Acheampong’s visit to meet delegates today. Our national coordinator is seriously injured, and the brother who is the polling station chairman at Ejisu was also involved.”
The party is yet to announce funeral arrangements as members and sympathisers continue to offer support to the injured and the bereaved family.
