The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has revealed that his loyalty to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo earned him both a political appointment and a “blank cheque” to choose his preferred position in government.
Speaking in an interview on JoyPrime, shared on X (formerly Twitter) on October 15, 2025, Mr. Okyere Baafi recounted how his long-standing dedication to Akufo-Addo’s political journey paid off when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took office in 2017.
According to him, he was the first person to be appointed under the Akufo-Addo administration — becoming the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to be named even before ministers were selected.
“So, we believe in him; you know, he has been our father for a very long time. Remember, sometimes we went to him for support when he was a lawyer. I loyally worked for him. I believe in loyalty. Politics is about loyalty and commitment,” he said.
Mr. Okyere Baafi further revealed that the former president offered him a blank cheque to decide which ministry or position he wanted to serve in.
“I think one of the privileges I had working with the president then, before he became the president… I was the first CEO to be appointed in Akufo-Addo’s government. I was given my appointment on 25th January — even before other ministers had been named. He gave me a blank cheque and told me to look for where I wanted to serve, and he gave it to me,” he disclosed.
The New Juaben South MP emphasized that his story highlights the value of loyalty and commitment in politics, noting that his decision to choose a CEO position over a ministerial role stemmed from his desire to serve effectively within his capacity.
