Flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Friday, October 10, 2025, take part in a balloting exercise to determine their positions on the ballot paper for the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The National Elections Committee is expected to convene the session at the party’s headquarters in Accra, where the five aspirants or their representatives will participate in the draw.
According to Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed, the process will include all aspirants who have fully complied with the party’s laid-down guidelines.
“All candidates who have met the July 29 guidelines will ballot today. No one will be exempted from any party rule,” he said, adding that the procedures are rooted in the party’s constitution and must be observed by all contenders.
“These guidelines are constitutional, and anyone seeking to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections must adhere to them,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona, Communications Director for Kwabena Agyepong’s campaign team, has reaffirmed that the former General Secretary remains in the race despite controversy surrounding a GH₵4 million development fee.
He clarified that Mr. Agyepong opposed the fee being made a prerequisite for contesting but has expressed willingness to contribute to the party’s development when necessary.
“At his vetting, he made his position clear — that he supports party development but does not believe the fee should be a condition for contesting the flagbearership,” Mr. Dowuona explained.
The five aspirants vying to become the NPP’s 2028 presidential candidate are:
-
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
-
Kennedy Agyapong
-
Dr. Bryan Acheampong
-
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
-
Kwabena Agyepong
The results of today’s balloting will determine the order in which these candidates’ names appear on the ballot paper for the upcoming primary election.
