Hon. Akuoko Frimpong, a former teacher, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy at KNUST Senior High School involving the Assistant Headmaster and a female student—a case that has triggered nationwide debate and led to the official’s removal by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Speaking on Kessben FM Maakye with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Akuoko Frimpong recalled a personal experience during his teaching days when a female student once presented him with a flower, asking him to be her Valentine.
He explained that while such situations can arise, teachers must remain mindful of their professional role and responsibilities.
“Teachers must be extra careful. We are the adults in these situations, and no matter how enticing the circumstances may seem, professionalism must always come first,” he emphasized.
The remarks come against the backdrop of the viral KNUST SHS video, which allegedly captured the Assistant Headmaster in a “compromised position” with a female student. GES has described the incident as a “serious breach” of professional ethics, barring the official from entering the school while investigations continue.
Akuoko Frimpong underscored that while teachers are human and may occasionally receive compliments or tokens of admiration from students, they must adopt a strict code of dignity, distance, and discipline.
“This is the only way even innocent gestures will not be twisted into allegations of misconduct,” he added.
