Ghanaian DStv subscribers are set to enjoy 33% to 50% more value on their packages following a breakthrough agreement between the government and MultiChoice Africa.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced the concession on Monday, September 29, 2025, after weeks of tense negotiations over DStv pricing.
“MultiChoice Africa has committed to an unprecedented increase in value offer only in Ghana, which will result in subscribers getting more services for less,” the Minister revealed at a press briefing.
Package Upgrades
Under the new arrangement — which takes effect immediately and runs for three months — subscribers will automatically be upgraded as follows:

Access → Family
-
Family → Compact
-
Compact → Compact Plus
-
Compact Plus → Premium
Subscribers already on the Premium bouquet will not miss out; they will be entered into a draw to win a fully paid trip to Dubai.
Background
The value boost follows weeks of regulatory pressure and public outcry over DStv subscription costs. A stakeholder committee set up by the National Communications Authority (NCA) on September 8 was tasked with reviewing pricing and ensuring fair market practices.
MultiChoice initially resisted the push for price reductions, citing operational challenges, but the new package upgrades signal a cooling of tensions and a move toward a more collaborative relationship with government regulators.
The committee will reconvene after the three-month trial period to evaluate the programme and consider further measures to enhance affordability and service delivery.
