Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, says former Environment Minister Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng’s report on illegal mining implicates the National Democratic Congress (NDC) more than the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, September 20, Aboagye argued that the opposition NDC cannot use the report as a weapon against the government without acknowledging that it highlights a greater involvement of their own members in galamsey activities.
“The report is clear. It says that there are far more NDC people engaged in illegal mining. So if Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s report is what they want us to work with, and indeed, it is established in that report that there are far more NDC people involved in illegal mining,” he said.
Referencing page 13 of the report, Aboagye claimed that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng noted how the NDC gained greater access to mining-related resources, giving them an advantage in benefiting from galamsey operations.
“This is because there are far more NDC people engaged in illegal mining than NPP members in the region. This is in Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s report,” he emphasized.
Aboagye maintained that if the report is accepted as the benchmark for accountability, then the NDC “has no business being in office,” as it indicts them more strongly than the ruling NPP.
