The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a British national and two Ghanaian accomplices at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for allegedly attempting to smuggle 38 kilograms of compressed substances believed to be cannabis into the country.
According to NACOC, the suspects were intercepted at the arrival terminal during a routine inspection when security personnel discovered two pieces of luggage containing 25 slabs of the illicit substance. The narcotics were concealed in false compartments within the suitcases and wrapped in a manner consistent with international trafficking methods.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were acting in concert to transport the drugs. The seized items have since been forwarded to the Ghana Standards Authority for laboratory analysis to confirm their nature.
In a statement, NACOC confirmed that the three individuals are in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The Commission emphasized that the arrest reflects intensified efforts to curb drug trafficking through Ghana’s entry points, warning that security agencies remain on high alert to prevent the country from being used as a transit hub for narcotics.
