The Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Tema Central Constituency Secretary, who once worked as a protocol officer to a former TDC Managing Director, of unlawfully selling a public plot of land to his wife for just GHS2,000.
According to TDC, the land, situated in Tema Community 5 and originally earmarked for the construction of a public toilet, was disposed of without proper authorization.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, September 4, TDC Managing Director Courage Makafui Nunekpeku revealed that the officer’s contract was terminated after internal investigations confirmed the illegality.
He disclosed that the land, located behind Tema Secondary School, has since been reclaimed for state use.
“The NPP Tema Central Constituency Secretary sold that plot to his wife at GHS2,000. I have the documents to prove it. Once I investigated the matter, I engaged the woman and immediately terminated the contract,” Mr. Nunekpeku said.
He stressed that his actions were to safeguard public property: “I am not grabbing land; I am only protecting what belongs to the state. That site is now back under state control to be developed into a public toilet.”
On a related matter, Mr. Nunekpeku also addressed complaints by the Peaceful Settlers’ Association against the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly over alleged land seizures despite a court injunction. He noted that TDC is working with all parties involved to resolve the dispute peacefully.
