The Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), John M. K. Wumborti, has assured the public that Ghana’s airspace remains safe despite recent aviation incidents, including the Z-9 helicopter crash and a series of emergency landings.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Accra, Mr. Wumborti emphasized that Ghana’s aviation sector is highly regulated and adheres to strict international safety standards.
“Before an aircraft moves, it is not child’s play. What goes into preparing an aircraft for takeoff ensures that passengers have 99.999% certainty of reaching their destination safely,” he explained.
Highlighting Ghana’s strong safety record, he noted that the country recently scored 89.89% in an international aviation safety audit, reflecting the robustness of its monitoring and regulatory systems.
Mr. Wumborti urged the public to remain confident in air travel, assuring that the Bureau takes all necessary preventive measures whenever early warning signals arise.
“Our airspace is safe, our aircraft are safe, and we want to allay the fears of the general public. They can travel with confidence,” he stated.
He further appealed to the media to support the AIB in educating the public about aviation safety to dispel unnecessary fears.
