The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has disclosed that he inherited a huge debt burden when he assumed office.
Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV on Tuesday, August 19, Mr. Kotey revealed that the Authority’s financial state was heavily constrained.
“I inherited debt, which I made the public aware of. In our dollar account, we were owing close to $200 million. In our cedi account, we were owing about GHC300 million,” he said.
Despite these challenges, the DVLA boss highlighted what he described as remarkable gains under his stewardship. He pointed out that reforms and new strategies have significantly improved revenue performance.
“I don’t want to blow my horns, but I have been able to make a lot of changes. In the 2025 first quarter, I moved revenue up by 57%,” he noted.
Mr. Kotey expressed optimism that with prudent management and innovative reforms, the Authority would not only recover from its debt crisis but also strengthen its operations to deliver better services to Ghanaians.
