masemtvgh.com can confirm that former President John Dramani Mahama travelled to Japan on a commercial Emirates Airlines flight, contrary to claims by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, who alleged that he used a costly private jet.
The MP had suggested that a private jet with registration number M-BAEP departed Accra on Sunday morning, August 17, and claimed it might have been chartered by Mr. Mahama at an estimated cost of $690,000.
However, checks by masemtvgh.com revealed that the former President departed Accra later that afternoon, after attending a thanksgiving service for the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah. He boarded Emirates flight EK318, transiting through Dubai before arriving in Tokyo at 5:43 p.m. local time (nine hours ahead of Ghana).
Flight records available on FlightAware confirm the Emirates flight details.

Mr. Mahama is in Japan to participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is expected to deliver remarks during a plenary session on Promoting Trade and Investment.
He was received at Narita International Airport by officials from Ghana’s Embassy in Japan and representatives of the Japanese government. The former President is accompanied by a high-level delegation for the summit, which seeks to strengthen Africa’s ownership of its development agenda and deepen international cooperation.
