The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the government has fully paid all outstanding arrears of the Capitation Grant for basic schools, covering the period from 2023 to date.
According to GES, the payment reflects the government’s strong commitment to supporting effective and uninterrupted basic education across the country. The Capitation Grant is vital for public basic schools, providing financial support for purchasing teaching and learning materials, minor repairs, and other key activities.
GES expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for prioritizing this payment despite economic challenges. The service also commended school heads for their dedication in maintaining continuous teaching and learning during the delay.
School leaders have been urged to use the funds responsibly and in line with official guidelines. GES monitoring teams at the district and regional levels will oversee the proper use of the grant to ensure accountability and value for money.
GES reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to improve school management systems, learning outcomes, and the delivery of inclusive and quality education for all Ghanaian children.
