Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC and currently serving as the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced his intention to contest the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In an interview on Okay FM on July 16, 2025, Abronye declared that he is fully qualified to lead the party and will enter the race once nominations are officially opened.
“Did you know I’ll be contesting the NPP flagbearership? Yes, I will. That makes me a potential aspirant,” he said. “I am more qualified than many of those who have expressed interest. In terms of academic credentials, I have plenty—and not the type GTEC would question. I earned a Second-Class Upper degree in Law from the University of Ghana, Legon.”
Abronye also urged fellow aspirants to avoid divisive rhetoric, cautioning that internal attacks could weaken party unity and reduce the NPP’s electoral chances in 2028. He encouraged a focus on policy and issue-based campaigning.
Among those who have already expressed interest in leading the NPP into the next election are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President; Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central; Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Education Minister; Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi; and Boakye Agyarko, former Energy Minister.
