Andrew Appiah Danquah, the spokesperson for the Movement for Change, has accused both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo of prioritizing their personal agendas in the ongoing dispute regarding her possible removal from office.
During an appearance on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 28, 2025, Mr. Danquah criticized what he described as selective legal reasoning and narrow-minded behavior from the NPP, as well as what he sees as self-centered actions by the Chief Justice.
“The arguments the NPP is presenting now should have been raised back in 2017 when Charlotte Osei was being dismissed under the same Article 146,” he pointed out.
“It’s evident that both the NPP and the Chief Justice are being guided by self-interest. The NPP is acting out of political convenience, and the Chief Justice is trying to protect herself—it’s not about serving the public.”
Mr. Danquah stressed that authority stems from the people and called on those in leadership to exercise power in the interest of the nation.
“Power is vested in the people, and those entrusted with it must use it to benefit all citizens,” he said.
He also took aim at the opposition, accusing them of exploiting the impeachment debate for political advantage rather than upholding constitutional principles.
“The opposition is not truly standing up for the country,” he remarked. “It’s disheartening to see them trying to shift the blame onto the President, especially when Nana Addo himself said he was merely a conduit in the process.”
