Franklin Cudjoe, President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, has supported demands for the removal of Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, describing them as well-founded.
His comments follow renewed calls by National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah for the EC leaders to step down.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 28, Cudjoe argued that the current EC leadership has failed to uphold transparency and accountability, particularly in their management of recent elections.
He criticised the Commission for excessive spending and highlighted the disenfranchisement of voters in the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) areas during the 2020 parliamentary elections as a major lapse.
While clarifying that he personally would not file a petition for their removal, Cudjoe disclosed that IMANI had already submitted a complaint to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) concerning the EC’s conduct.
He stressed that the concerns raised are not partisan but speak to the broader issue of democratic integrity.
“Everyone knows where I stand. I haven’t even brought up the SALL issue—if I did, the case against them would be even worse. I don’t need to petition personally, but I expect the process to be handled transparently,” he stated.
“We’ve already taken the matter to CHRAJ—not necessarily to push for their removal, but to show that their actions were heavy-handed, evasive, and have contributed to some of the financial strains we face,” Cudjoe added.
