The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) says it is prepared to end its ongoing indefinite strike if the government takes concrete steps to pay all outstanding allowances.
According to PSWU National Chairman Ken Tweneboah Koduah, the strike, which began on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, has significantly disrupted services at National Identification Authority (NIA) offices nationwide, with operations at regional, district, and premium centres brought to a halt.
In a media interview on the same day, Mr. Koduah stated that the union is willing to suspend the industrial action if the government commits to correcting the allowance issue and provides a clear schedule for payment.
“The allowances must be reinstated. The government must offer clarity—if it can’t pay today, when exactly will it pay? Budget constraints can’t be an excuse. The mid-year budget review is coming soon, so there’s an opportunity to address this. What happened was an oversight, and workers should not be made to suffer for it,” he emphasized.
