Political commentator and media personality, Nana Frimpong Ziega, has commended Hon. Kennedy Agyapong for his transformation and maturity in recent years but cautioned that a lack of focus and strategic discipline could cost him the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential ticket.
Speaking on Kessben FM’s Morning Show in Accra, Ziega noted that Agyapong has significantly evolved from the fiery, outspoken political figure of 2015 into a more composed and message-driven contender.
“This is not the same Kennedy Agyapong we knew in 2015. He’s more refined, he speaks with clarity, and he now connects better with the grassroots,” Ziega observed.
Agyapong, once known for his confrontational style and controversial rhetoric, has recently shifted towards a more policy-centered campaign, emphasizing themes such as job creation, industrialization, discipline, and patriotism.
Ziega praised the MP for Assin Central for this rebranding but warned that reformation alone won’t be enough to secure victory in the party’s 2026 presidential primaries.
“He must maintain focus and avoid distractions. The other aspirants are not just experienced—they are strategic, well-connected, and well-resourced,” Ziega stated.
He advised Agyapong to consolidate his grassroots popularity while working to build trust within the party’s elite structures, adding that crowd appeal and emotional slogans won’t be enough.
“What Kennedy needs now is tactical engagement with delegates, strategic messaging, and credibility among the party hierarchy. If he loses focus, all his progress could amount to nothing,” Ziega cautioned.
His remarks come as the NPP’s internal race to succeed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer in 2028 gains momentum, with Kennedy Agyapong expected to be a formidable contender following his strong showing in the 2024 primaries.
