The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed the prospect of an immediate re-run of the 2024 parliamentary elections in Ablekuma North, indicating that results from three yet-to-be-collated polling stations are still valid and can be processed.
The delay in finalizing the results, according to the EC, is due to the Ghana Police Service awaiting legal guidance from the Attorney General’s Department on how best to ensure security during the collation.
Speaking before Parliament on Thursday, June 19, Dr. Bossman Asare, the EC’s Deputy Chair in charge of Corporate Affairs, emphasized that a re-run is not currently under consideration.
“For Ablekuma North, we have not reached a point where the results are considered lost. A re-run will only be considered if it becomes impossible to retrieve and compile the outstanding results,” he stated.
Dr. Asare also revealed that during the 2024 general elections, the Commission incurred GHS 3.6 million in costs for reprinting presidential ballots and GHS 2.4 million for parliamentary ballots in the Eastern and Western Regions.
