Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Vice-President, has stated that his decision to concede defeat early in the 2024 elections was made to safeguard national stability and avoid political unrest.
Speaking to party supporters in the Oti Region during the NPP’s ongoing Thank You Tour, Dr. Bawumia reflected on the events following the election and emphasized that his decision was driven by patriotism.
“Conceding early wasn’t easy, but I did it for Ghana’s peace. My goal was to prevent unnecessary tension and ensure stability,” he explained.
He added that by quickly accepting the election outcome, he aimed to reinforce democratic values and boost public trust in the country’s political system.
“Promptly acknowledging the results helped maintain calm and upheld the rule of law,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia also extended heartfelt gratitude to the party’s supporters for their tireless efforts during the campaign.
“I’m truly grateful for all your sacrifices — from house-to-house campaigning to mobilizing funds. This tour is my way of thanking you and affirming our collective commitment to Ghana’s future,” he noted.
His comments emphasized unity, appreciation, and a continued dedication to national development, despite the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
