The opposition National Democratic Congress has today, Sunday, September 26, officially outdoors Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi and his supporters to the NDC at Kwatire, his hometown in the Sunyani West Constituency in the Bono Region.
Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi, a former Presiding Member of the Sunyani West Assembly and his supporters were welcomed by the Executives and members of the Umbrella family amidst jubilation at a brief but a historic occasion at the premises of the Kwatire – Adantia Middle School.
This colourful program was graced by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, the Regional Executives of the Bono Region, the constituency Executives of both Sunyani East and Sunyani West, members of the National Democratic Congress while supporters of Team BOT thronged the premises with joy and celebration.
In a brief speech by the former District Chief Executive for the Sunyani West Assembly and the current Regional Women’s Organizer for the Bono Region, Hon Agnes Kusi described Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi as ‘someone who stops at nothing in pursuing a good course’.
Hon Agnes Kusi recounted her experience as the then DCE working with Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi as the then Assembly Member for the Kwatire Electoral Area. The Regional Women’s Organizer warmly welcomed Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi and his numerous supporters to the NDC and pledged her support and that of the constituency to them at any point in time.

Who is Bernard Oduro Takyi?
Bernard Oduro Takyi, affectionately referred to as B. O. T. was an active member in good standing of the ruling New Patriotic Party for many years.
Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi in his school days at the University of Ghana, was a known active member of the NPP student wing on campus, TESCON.
Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi, having served passed through the ranks and file of the New Patriotic Party, picked up a nomination form for the NPP 2020 Parliamentary Primaries for the Sunyani West Constituency to contest the incumbent Member of Parliament but he was mysteriously disqualified without any cogent reason assigning to his disqualification.
Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi, who was not pleased with the decision by the vetting committee to disqualify him appealed to the National Executives of the NPP to impress upon the Regional Vetting Committee to comeout with the reasons for his disqualification but his petition went on deaf ears.
Mr Bernard Oduro Takyi then decided to breakaway from the NPP with his supporters to contest as an independent candidate in the 2020 Parliamentary election in the Sunyani West Constituency where he was able to pull almost seven thousand votes, representing 11.40% of the total valid votes cast to place third in the Parliamentary Election.
