Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, the former Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), has urged President John Dramani Mahama to rescind a letter terminating his appointment.
According to Prof. Attafuah, he officially retired from public service in November 2024, rendering the termination letter both inaccurate and unnecessary.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, 18 January 2025, Prof. Attafuah revealed that he had discussed the matter with Dr Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President, regarding the widely publicized termination letter.
The letter, dated 16 January, instructed Prof. Attafuah to hand over his responsibilities to Mr Wisdom Kwaku Deku, the newly appointed acting Executive Secretary of the NIA.
Prof. Attafuah clarified that he had already handed over his duties to Mr Mahama Suleman Sualihu in November 2024 following his retirement.
“The letter, attached below, directed me to hand over to Mr Wisdom Kwaku Deku. I discussed the matter with Dr Callistus Mahama today following an earlier conversation yesterday [Friday, January 17], during which I highlighted the following undeniable facts,” Prof. Attafuah wrote.
He explained that his post-retirement contract concluded on 13 November 2024, and he had submitted his handing-over notes to the transition team. Since then, Mr Sualihu has been acting as Executive Secretary.
Prof. Attafuah further shared that Dr Callistus Mahama assured him the termination letter would be officially withdrawn, stating, “He assured me he would address the issue on Monday when he returns to the office.”
Emphasizing his retirement, Prof. Attafuah urged the public to disregard any claims suggesting he was still serving as the Executive Secretary of the NIA.
