In a significant move to address the impacts of state capture, Team ORAL has inspected the North Labone site where the property of the Lomotey/Adotey family was illegally demolished in 2024. The inspection forms part of a broader initiative to investigate abuses of power and ensure accountability in Ghana.
During the visit, a representative of the Lomotey/Adotey family recounted the harrowing ordeal of losing their home and valuables. The family described the traumatic experience of witnessing their property reduced to rubble, leaving them homeless and struggling to find justice. Despite filing complaints and providing evidence, their efforts to seek restitution have been met with frustration and delays.
The Lands Commission, in a formal letter, admitted to an error in allocating the land to a politically connected cabal responsible for the demolition. However, the Lomotey/Adotey family has yet to receive any form of compensation. To add to their distress, they continue to bear the financial burden of maintaining private security to protect the remains of their property, spending thousands of Cedis monthly.
Team ORAL, which has taken up the fight against state capture and abuse of power, assured the family that their plight would be included in a comprehensive report to be submitted to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. The team reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for the affected family and preventing such abuses in the future.
“This should never happen again in Ghana. We must stand united against despicable acts of state capture that undermine our democracy and the rights of citizens,” a representative of Team ORAL stated.
The Lomotey/Adotey family, though hopeful for justice, emphasized the emotional and financial toll the incident has taken on them. They called on authorities to act swiftly to compensate victims and hold the perpetrators accountable.
As the nation awaits the findings and recommendations of Team ORAL’s report, one message remains clear: the days of unchecked state capture must come to an end.
