Some NPP grassroots supporters in the Sekondi constituency have raised serious concerns about the possible use of black magic locally called ‘Juju’ by an aspirant in the upcoming parliamentary primary slated for Saturday, January 27.
According to a group of diehard NPP supporters in the Sekondi constituency identified as Concern Patriots, an aspirant has been allegedly planning to host all the delegates on election day and offer them breakfast.
The breakfast which would be tea and bread according to the group, would be laced with black magic that would cause the delegates to vote in a particular direction once they take it.
This was contained in a press statement issued by Concern Patriots to draw the party’s hierarchy’s attention to the alleged plot by the said aspirant whose identity was not disclosed.
They, have therefore, called on the National Executive Committee of the party to strictly enforce the modalities and rules governing the conduct of the party’s parliamentary primaries on Saturday which bar aspirants from camping and feeding the delegates.
The group also alleged in their statement that some powerful hands within the party in the constituency were intimidating the delegates ahead of Saturday’s polls.
Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer is a two-term MP and Deputy Minister of Energy. He is the current MP for the Sekondi constituency. He is contesting with Benjamin Paa Kwasi Moses, former constable and Regional Officer.
Below is the full statement issued by the group:

For immediate release.
Re: No aspirant must provide tea for delegates.
The Concern Patriots of Sekondi, which is a network of constituents who believe in the political ideology of the New Patriotic Party in the Sekondi Constituency, have become aware of a certain strange development that has been allegedly devised by an aspirant who is seeking to lead the party as its parliamentary candidate in the 2024 general elections.
We, the Concern Patriots have picked intelligence that an aspirant and his team have planned to host all the delegates, feed and transport them to the designated voting venue on the 27th of this month.
Our further information revealed that the said aspirant has planned to provide tea and bread for all the delegates as their breakfast on the day of the election.
According to our reliable sources, the said tea and bread that the aspirants intend to provide for the delegates would be contaminated with substances that would allegedly contain “Black Magic” and meant to influence the delegates to vote in a particular direction.
We have also become aware of threats and intimidations being issued by the powers that be that special auditing would be used to identify each delegate and how they voted according to serial numbers of the ballot papers that would be issued to them during voting.
This purported threat is meant to put fear into the delegates to make sure that they would kowtow to the whims and caprices of the powers that be and vote in a specific trend.
As Concern Patriots who are grass root members of the NPP, we are appalled by these developments because they could easily break the front of the party in the constituency and affect the party’s fortunes as well and therefore calls on the National Executive Committee of the party to pay attention to these ugly developments and put in place measures to stem same.
Furthermore, both the aspirants and the delegates in the Sekondi Constituency must be aware that the hierarchy of the party has issued a warning to all the aspirants across the country to desist from camping or hosting the delegates and providing them with transport and breakfast ahead of the primaries.
Our greatest desire, as Concern Patriots, is to see a credible aspirant wins in a free, fair and credible primaries devoid of intimidations, use of charms and other superstitious means.
Thank you.
David Paa Kobina Ainooson
Convener, Concern Patriots
Sekondi Constituency.
