Kobina Tahir Hammond, the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, has escalated his efforts to the National Vetting Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), submitting a petition seeking the disqualification of all three contenders in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
Initially, on January 2, 2024, Hammond had submitted a petition to the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, specifically targeting his primary opponent, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa. However, following the regional committee’s decision to dismiss the petition and clear both aspirants for the primary campaign, Hammond remains dissatisfied.
In his latest petition, as seen by JoyNews, K.T. Hammond expresses discontent with the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee’s decision, led by NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
Hammond argues that his opponents, including Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, the Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company, are ineligible to participate in the parliamentary primaries based on Article 12(4) and (7) of the party’s constitution. He urges the National Vetting Committee to disqualify his opponents, citing allegations of non-membership in the NPP and insufficient contributions to the constituency’s development.
As the campaign intensifies ahead of the January 27 primaries, candidates are actively engaging delegates in preparation for the upcoming election.
