The Chief Executive Officer of a vibrant social media television, Masemtvgh, has taken a swipe on the mainstream media and the journalist on what he described as ”deceitful reportage” on the happenings in Parliament regarding their proceedings.
Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour made these comments on Masemtvgh in Sunyani on Thursday, 20th July, 2023.
There have been series of reports in the media blaming the minority caucus in Parliament for distracting government businesses in the house. Many of these media houses claimed that the absenteeism of the minority caucus in Parliament is the reason why the Speaker of Parliament has to consistently adjourned sittings, impeding government businesses which are to be carried out in Parliament.
Reacting to these viral accusations carried out in the mainstream media, Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour, described the reportage as a ”deceitful agenda” by some hypocritical media houses and their journalists, to only cast a slur on the minority caucus in the eyes of the public.
According to Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour, the current Parliament does not need the presence of the minority to carry out government businesses. ”The NPP has majority in Parliament with a total members of 138, including the independent member who has decided to do business with them.
The NPP has the numbers to carry out government businesses in Parliament because the numbers they need to form quorum to carry out government businesses is 92 which the NPP have more than the figure. The NPP have the numbers to form a quorum so where are they?
Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour revealed that the Majority leader, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and his Deputy, Hon Alexander Afenyo-Markins have nicodemously been absent from Parliament for three consecutive sitting days without the media asking them for their reasons to absent themselves from Parliament when they are the ones to present and lead government businesses in Parliament.
”Kyei Mensah Bonsu and his Deputy, Afenyo-Markins have not been in from Monday to Wednesday yet no media or journalist is talking about it in Ghana” Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour stated.
The vociferous Masemtvgh CEO, subsequently called out the media to be fair in their reportage.
We have a media which is so biased that they even fail to seek a common information from Parliament to know the number of MPs that are needed to form a quorum for Parliament to carry out government businesses. Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour, who was not happy about the works of some media houses sited Kessben TV, Kessben Fm and their cronies in a deceitful names as social media commentators for their deliberate ploy to tag the minority caucus as unpatriotic.
The media must be fair to the minority caucus because they have already served notice to the general public that anytime that the Assin North Member of Parliament will be in court, they will accompany and solidarise with him to register their displeasure to the government to demand for fair trial for their colleague. According to the minority caucus, they see the trial of their colleague, Hon James Gyakye Quayson as persecution and not that of prosecution.
Let me ask the media and the journalists, is the government fair to the Assin North Member of Parliament in the ongoing case in court? There are senior citizens, including former Attorney General under the Kuffour led NPP administration who has called on the Attorney General to file a nolle prosequi to discontinue this case in order not to waste our scarce resources on this case. To Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour, the decision by the government through the Attorney General to impress upon the court for a daily trial of Hon James Gyakye Quayson is unfortunate as there are several serious murder cases that are not on daily trial which are of much interest to the general public.
