The wife of the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hajia Amina Adam, has formally declared her intention to contest the forthcoming parliamentary by-election following the death of her husband, Mahama Naser Toure.
The Electoral Commission (EC) announced on January 16, 2026, that the by-election will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, after the parliamentary seat became vacant due to the passing of the legislator. Under Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, the EC is mandated to organise a by-election to fill such vacancies.
In a statement released on Thursday, January 22, Hajia Amina Adam said her decision was taken after persistent appeals from constituents, grassroots supporters and respected elders within the Ayawaso East Constituency, urging her to continue her late husband’s legacy of service.
She noted that she carefully considered the calls from community leaders and party supporters before agreeing to offer herself for service, despite the personal difficulty of the moment.
Hajia Adam further assured chiefs, imams, youth leaders and residents of the constituency of her commitment to serve faithfully and not betray the confidence placed in her.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced guidelines for the conduct of its parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency ahead of the by-election in the Greater Accra Region.
