The High Court in Accra has reviewed and amended the bail conditions of former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Hamid, along with nine other accused persons standing trial over the alleged extortion of oil marketing companies.
The suspects were first granted bail on December 9, 2025, with conditions that required them to report regularly to the court’s Registrar. However, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) later applied for a modification of these terms.
In presenting its application, the OSP explained that directing the accused to report to the lead investigator, rather than the Registrar, would allow for closer supervision and more effective monitoring throughout the case.
In its decision, the court ordered that the accused persons must now report to the lead investigator on the first and third Tuesdays of every month until the trial officially begins. The investigator has also been instructed to submit monthly reports to the court.
Once the trial commences, the reporting requirement will be reduced to the first Tuesday of each month, aligning with court hearing dates. Additionally, the court directed that the names of the accused be placed on a stop list at all entry and exit points to prevent them from leaving the country without prior approval.
