Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, is expected to file his nomination on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The former Member of Parliament for Akwatia announced his decision to enter the race following the sudden death of the Ayawaso East MP, Mahama Naser Toure, who passed away on January 4, 2026, after a short illness.
Explaining his decision, Baba Jamal expressed optimism about his prospects, pointing to his long-standing relationship with the people of the constituency as a major advantage.
He said he is seeking the mandate of the electorate to represent Ayawaso East in Parliament, adding that he has worked closely with residents on several initiatives over the years.
According to him, the by-election presents an opportunity for unity and renewal, urging constituents to come together to project a new and positive image for the area.
Baba Jamal noted that his decision to contest is rooted in personal sacrifice and a firm belief in collective progress, stressing that together with the people, he believes a new narrative can be shaped.
The Electoral Commission has scheduled the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
