U.S. Embassy in Accra to roll out FIFA Pass for 2026 World Cup visa applicants

The United States Embassy in Accra has announced plans to introduce a new arrangement aimed at assisting travellers intending to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, January 21, the Embassy’s Press Attaché, Matthew Asada, revealed that the initiative is still being finalised but will be implemented soon, with further details to be shared in due course.

According to Asada, the new system will be known as the FIFA Pass, short for the FIFA Prioritised Appointment Scheduling System.

He explained that the FIFA Pass is designed to ensure that non-immigrant visa applicants who already possess valid tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are able to secure visa appointments ahead of the tournament.

The announcement comes at a time when the U.S. Embassy in Accra is increasing the availability of non-immigrant visa appointments by opening thousands of additional slots in response to growing demand.

The Embassy has advised Ghanaians planning to travel for the World Cup to start their visa application process early, cautioning that delays could affect their chances of obtaining appointments and completing visa processing before the event.

Applicants have also been cautioned to use only the official U.S. visa appointment website to avoid scams and unauthorised third parties.

The Embassy indicated that more information about the FIFA Pass will be made available once the system is fully finalised.
