A new nationwide survey by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) indicates that most Ghanaians believe the country is moving in a positive direction.
The poll, conducted between December 20 and December 28, 2025, covered all 16 regions and gathered responses from 1,022 participants.
According to the findings, 58 percent of respondents said they were satisfied with the country’s current direction. Meanwhile, 34 percent expressed dissatisfaction, and 8 percent said they were unsure.
The survey comes after significant economic and political developments in 2025, including the inauguration of a new government and notable improvements in key macroeconomic indicators. The IEA suggested that these changes may have influenced public perceptions.
The report highlighted several economic gains that could explain the improved outlook. The cedi strengthened by about 32 percent against the U.S. dollar between 2024 and 2025, while inflation declined sharply from 23.8 percent in 2024 to 5.4 percent in 2025. These trends have helped ease fuel prices and lower the cost of some imported goods.
In addition, the debt-to-GDP ratio dropped from 61.8 percent at the end of December 2024 to 45 percent by October 2025. Average lending rates also fell from 30.2 percent to 22.2 percent over the same period, further supporting economic confidence.
The IEA observed that these developments have contributed to growing optimism among citizens about their prospects under the new administration.
Despite the generally positive sentiment, the survey noted that a sizable portion of the population remains unhappy. The 34 percent who are dissatisfied indicate that public confidence, while improving, is still fragile.
The IEA concluded that although most Ghanaians are optimistic, the government must continue tackling everyday economic and social challenges to maintain trust and build on the progress made so far.
