Nana Oppong Kyekyeku Ababio, the Dormaa Gyasa Krontihene, has raised concern over the persistently high cost of spare parts in Ghana, despite the recent reduction in the dollar exchange rate.
According to him, spare parts dealers rely heavily on the dollar to import goods from overseas, and with the currency now declining, prices on the local market should reflect this change. However, he noted that consumers continue to bear high costs, creating hardship for drivers, artisans, and transport operators.
Speaking during Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s Thank You Tour at the Community Stakeholders and Party Members’ Durbar held at the Yawkrom L/A School Park, the traditional leader called on Mr. Asiedu Nketiah to relay the concerns to President John Dramani Mahama.
He suggested that the government, with its strong majority in Parliament, could consider introducing legislation to regulate or guide the pricing of spare parts to ensure fairness and protect consumers.
Nana Oppong Kyekyeku Ababio emphasized that aligning spare parts prices with the current exchange rate would help reduce transportation costs and contribute to overall economic relief for Ghanaians.
