If You Could Present Budgets While Sick, You Can Appear to Account – NPP’s Eugene Boakye Antwi Tells Ken Ofori-Atta

Former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing and New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has taken a swipe at former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, insisting that claims of ill health should not prevent him from appearing to account for his stewardship if he believes he has done nothing wrong.

According to Mr. Boakye Antwi, Mr. Ofori-Atta previously demonstrated the physical resolve to present national budgets in Parliament even when he was visibly unwell, and therefore should be capable of honouring any invitation that requires him to explain or defend his actions.

“If you could present budgets in Parliament while visibly sick, then you should be able to appear and account for your actions if you truly believe you have done nothing wrong,” Mr. Boakye Antwi stated.

He stressed that public office comes with responsibility and accountability, particularly for officials who managed critical sectors of the economy. Mr. Boakye Antwi noted that accountability is essential to strengthening public trust and maintaining confidence in democratic governance.

The comments come amid growing public debate and calls for Mr. Ofori-Atta to respond to questions surrounding his tenure as Finance Minister. Mr. Boakye Antwi emphasized that appearing before the appropriate authorities would help clear any doubts and demonstrate commitment to transparency.

He concluded that no individual, regardless of status or past service, should be perceived as being above accountability, adding that facing scrutiny is a necessary part of public service.
