Ghana’s Child Rights Interventions Receive Global Applause in Geneva

Ghana’s commitment to the promotion and protection of child rights has earned international recognition at a global child rights event held in Geneva.

At the event, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection presented Ghana’s report on child rights interventions, with significant contributions from the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah.

Speaking during the engagement, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah highlighted key national initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of children across the country.

She emphasized government efforts to ensure parity between boys and girls in access to education, as well as the introduction of mobile birth registration systems to register newborns in hard-to-reach rural communities.

The Salaga South MP also outlined the role of Parliament’s Gender Committee, noting its oversight and monitoring responsibilities over shelters for vulnerable and displaced persons to ensure they meet required standards of care and protection.

Additionally, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah shed light on government strategies to combat drug abuse among teenagers. She disclosed that offices of the Narcotics Control Commission have been established in district capitals to decentralize services and bring support closer to communities.

The event was described as a major success, with Ghana receiving commendation and applause from participants for its positive interventions and policy frameworks on child rights.

The Ghanaian delegation to the global forum was led by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, reaffirming the country’s strong commitment to upholding the rights and wellbeing of children.
