The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called for a thorough investigation into the procurement of cocoa sacks under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia made the call during his Thank You Tour at Ayomso in the Ahafo Region, alleging that substantial public funds were expended on cocoa sacks that have turned out to be unusable, resulting in financial losses to the state.
According to him, the sacks are currently lying idle at the port, rendering them unfit for their intended purpose. He said the situation warrants a comprehensive probe to identify those responsible for the procurement decision.
He further claimed that preliminary checks suggest some individuals may have personally benefited from the transaction at the expense of the state, and called for their arrest and prosecution should investigations confirm any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, the Council of State representative for the Ahafo Region, Yaw Okyere, commended Mr. Asiedu Nketia for his role in the NDC’s performance in the 2024 general elections. He credited the party chairman’s strategy, experience, and resources as key factors behind the NDC’s historic victory in the region.
