An aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwesi Botchway Jnr. Esq., has clarified that Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, is not a member of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Botchway Jnr. stressed that while Abronye remains a senior party figure, he does not hold any official role within Dr. Bawumia’s current political or campaign structure.
“Abronye is not part of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team,” he stated, dismissing claims and public speculation suggesting otherwise.
According to him, the clarification has become necessary following recent comments and public actions by the Bono Regional Chairman, which some sections of the public and party supporters have wrongly attributed to Dr. Bawumia’s campaign.
Mr. Botchway Jnr. emphasised that Dr. Bawumia’s team operates with clearly defined structures and official spokespersons, adding that only authorised members speak or act on behalf of the former Vice President.
“Dr. Bawumia’s campaign is guided by discipline, coherence, and collective responsibility. Individuals who are not officially part of the campaign cannot be said to be representing his views or strategy,” he noted.
He further urged party supporters and the general public to distinguish between personal opinions expressed by party members and official positions of Dr. Bawumia’s team.
The clarification comes amid heightened internal discussions within the NPP as the party reorganises and reflects on its future direction following the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer in the 2024 elections, has largely kept a low profile since the polls but continues to engage party stakeholders and supporters across the country.
