Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has praised the Presidential Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he described as an impressive and transparent approach to preparations ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31.
In a statement issued on Friday, January 9, after receiving a briefing from the Committee, the former president expressed satisfaction with the progress made in organising the internal election and the manner in which the process is being conducted.
According to him, the Committee’s work has been characterised by clarity, openness, and strict adherence to democratic principles, helping to build confidence in the credibility of the exercise.
He noted that the emphasis on transparency has played a crucial role in preserving the integrity of the process and ensuring fairness and trust among all stakeholders.
“The Committee’s work, thus far, has been nothing short of impressive. Key milestones achieved on the principles of zero tolerance for opacity have ensured transparency and religiously guarded the sanctity of the process,” he said.
The Presidential Election Committee is chaired by former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, whose leadership has been credited with promoting inclusiveness, fairness, and compliance with party rules throughout the process.
Party sources say the Committee’s conduct reflects the NPP’s commitment to internal democracy and accountability as it prepares to select a flagbearer for the next general election.
With the January 31 primary drawing closer, Mr Akufo-Addo’s endorsement is expected to further reassure party delegates, aspirants, and the general public of the integrity of the process being managed by Mr Osei-Owusu and his team.
