Former Minister for Information and Member of Parliament, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has dismissed reports suggesting that he stated GoldBod had incurred a loss of $214 million, describing such claims as inaccurate and misleading.
According to Mr Oppong Nkrumah, he never made any assertion that the gold trading entity had recorded a $214 million loss, stressing that his earlier comments have been misconstrued or deliberately misrepresented in public discourse.
He explained that his remarks were aimed at raising concerns and seeking clarity on the operations and financial performance of GoldBod, rather than attributing a specific loss figure to the company.
The former minister emphasised the need for accuracy and fairness in public commentary, particularly on sensitive economic matters that can easily influence public perception and investor confidence.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah urged media practitioners and political communicators to verify statements before publication, adding that constructive debate must be anchored on facts rather than distorted narratives.
He reiterated his commitment to responsible opposition and accountability, noting that genuine scrutiny of state institutions should be based on verified data and transparent reporting, not unfounded claims.
