Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has announced that funds will soon be disbursed to contractors working on the long-stalled Krofrom Market redevelopment project, paving the way for its revival in 2026.
Speaking in an interview with Kofi Asante on Ezra TV, Dr Amoakohene discussed key development priorities outlined in the 2026 national budget and how they are expected to accelerate growth in the Ashanti Region.
He identified the Krofrom Market project, under the supervision of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), as a major initiative slated for renewed attention.
According to him, the project has been captured in the 2026 budget, and funds will be released to the contractors handling the redevelopment to enable work to resume.

The Regional Minister further explained that government has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to allocate 25 per cent of their District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for 2025 towards the construction of 24-hour model markets.
He said the policy is designed to ensure that every district in the country benefits from at least one modern market facility, noting that in the Ashanti Region alone, the initiative could result in the development of up to 43 markets.
Dr Amoakohene, however, stressed the need for flexibility in areas with existing but incomplete market projects.

He cited places such as Mampongteng, where ongoing market developments should be completed rather than abandoned in favour of entirely new projects.
With specific reference to Krofrom Market, he urged the KMA to channel its allocated 25 per cent funding into completing the existing project instead of starting a new one.
According to him, prioritising the completion of stalled legacy projects will ensure value for money and prevent the unnecessary duplication of infrastructure.
