In a major step to strengthen security in the Bono Region, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has officially commissioned the Bono Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) in Sunyani.
The initiative is intended to reinforce intelligence-led security operations across the region and aligns with Ghana’s broader national security strategy.
The newly inaugurated command will function as the central intelligence and security coordination hub for the Bono Region. It is fitted with modern surveillance technology and linked to both regional and national monitoring systems to enable real-time intelligence gathering and swift response to security threats.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Interior Minister delivered a firm warning to criminal elements, urging them to abandon unlawful activities or face decisive action from security agencies. He stressed that the state has the capacity and resolve to track down and deal with anyone who threatens public safety.
In his welcome address, the Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, praised the leadership and personnel of the National Signals Bureau for their dedication, professionalism and discreet yet vital contribution to national security.
He noted that the new office would significantly improve surveillance, intelligence collection, analysis and early warning capabilities, shifting the region’s security approach from reactive responses to proactive prevention.
The Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Dr. George Atta Boateng, highlighted the importance of professionalism among officers deployed to the new command. He explained that as security threats grow more complex — including cybercrime and cross-border criminal activity — the government is investing heavily in technology-driven intelligence systems to stay ahead of emerging dangers.
National Security Coordinator, COP Abdul-Osman Razak, also stressed the importance of strong cooperation among all security agencies, describing security as a collective responsibility.
He added that the success of these initiatives will depend on the continued commitment of both citizens and security personnel to maintaining peace and stability in the region and across the country.
