Bagbin champions Ghana’s anti-corruption drive at UN forum

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has highlighted Ghana’s increasing influence in the global fight against corruption at the world’s largest United Nations anti-corruption conference in Doha, Qatar.

Speaking at the 11th Conference of States Parties (CoSP 11) to the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), Mr Bagbin reaffirmed Ghana’s strong commitment to transparency and accountability. He noted that the country’s efforts are underpinned by decisive political leadership, preventive reforms, asset recovery initiatives, and robust institutions, while emphasizing the need for stronger international collaboration.

One of the key achievements highlighted was Ghana’s leadership in securing the first-ever UNCAC resolution on transparency in political party financing and election campaigns. In partnership with Norway, Albania, and Mongolia, Ghana spearheaded negotiations that reinforced the public’s right to know the sources of political funding.

The summit, held under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” concluded with the adoption of the Doha Declaration 2025, reaffirming the global commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in democratic governance.
